Workshop overview
This workshop is designed to acquaint and familiarize the attendees with the basic concepts of IT - decision making and problem solving and its implementation in corporate and public organizations and the contemporary applications on functional and cross-functional areas of an organization, such as supply chain management, CRM, and electronic trade.
The essence and use of information systems – (IS) for competitiveness and strategic advantage will be described and attendees will gain a basic understanding of IS, and learn with case studies how IT can help individuals and organizations to be more efficient and more productive in all areas.
Prerequisite
The course, rather than exhibit in-depth technical analysis of each individual topic, expose the attendees to a broad spectrum of managerial aspects and issues of IS.
The course does not require any prerequisite knowledge other than some acquaintance with the Internet and with the Microsoft Office software suite on a Windows based PC.
Workshop levels- Who is it for?
Every manager who is in charge of a team
Supervisors and new managers (N)
Managers, team leaders and supervisors who implement corporate strategy at the first line (typically with up to 3 years of experience in this role or equivalent).
Middle managers (M)
Managers who contribute to the formulation of corporate strategy and are responsible for its implementation within their departments/units (typically with 4 to 7 years of experience in this role or equivalent).
What business issues are addressed?
In recent decades, the impact of Information Technology – (IT) on the business world has been continuous and significant. Information Technology is bringing fundamental changes in many industries, organizations and daily lives. Many managerial trends such as flatter organizations, extensive use of outsourcing and mass customization have been enabled by the IT. Now we are all familiar with large capacity data storage devices, high capacity fiber optic data networks, public and private wireless LANs with Wi-Fi and WIMAX standards, WAP-enabled wireless phones, pocket-size MP3 jukeboxes, RFID tags, data mining, data warehouses, electronic commerce (B2B, B2C, C2C, etc. trade), e-government services, expansion of the internet, intranets and extranets, network security, internet worms and viruses, high bandwidth Internet access for households, fiber-to-home, expert systems and decision support systems. These do not only transform the way business is done, but also affect the social environment we live in.
